He rested his head on a small musty pillow and let his thoughts roam; he sank more and more into despair. His state of mind continued to deteriorate and like monomaniacs who had for too long thought of the same thing, his mood worsened. He imagined life passing him by without the money she promised. He wanted to press her, to let her know the urgency.

Slowly he made up his mind; he dressed in several layers of clothing and walked toward Chicago Avenue. He plunged into isolation, so far into depression that he felt his lungs being crushed. He needed Morgan to understand the urgency of getting things going. He walked toward her apartment in the dark of night with terror gripping his conscience. “What if she has cut me out of the deal?” he fretted.

“Damn, I think too much!” he muttered, pulling the knit cap down over his red ears, adding, “but she owes me that money, or least part of it and I wanted it!”

He fell into deep revulsions, repeating monologues to strengthen his weakened will power.
